In the kit you get a sheet of photo etched buckles, adjusters and Dzus fasteners (not part of the belts as such but can be used on the car). Theres also a sheet of manufacturer labels, Willans & Sabelt.
The belts themselves are paper and I wanted more realism so ordered 3mm double faced ribbon in blue, red and black off ebay. Although I’d measured the slots in the buckles the ribbon was too wide.
I cut them down slightly but it frayed and wouldnt pass through the slot. After a short search I found 2mm in the same colours.
2mm double faced ribbon.
I studied some P34 cockpit pictures for finer detail. For example which harness make they used.
Not the tidiest of drilling but I drilled two slots in the top of the seat as they were in the real car. Here’s the finished belt set. Very fiddly and often frustrating job. It took about three and a half hours to make the belts and fit them to the seat. I lengthened a shoulder strap and a the lap strap with the twist buckle as the weren’t long enough. The ends not on the seat were glued to the back of it with Gorilla Superglue Gel.Less is definitely more when gluing the ribbon. I’m learning that less glue is definitely more when model making!
Belts in place. They look better in the flesh to be honest. Very pleased with the end resultI didn’t take any shots of the process because I was concentrating hard on not cocking things up. I’ll try and do a picture tutorial next time
That’s the Tyrrell build complete now. It’s time to concentrate on the other kits.
