Ooh, we had an argument here a while back as to whether lab created diamonds are "real" (I vote no). I think you need to determine what your priority is - value or sparkle? I agree resale value on diamonds is not fabulous compared to what you will pay (OTOH maybe you should buy preowned?) but if that is a priority go with mined. If you think this is just something you will want for the next few years while you are at the current stage of your life, or even just to see if you would want to really invest in mined, get the labs.
For me personally, I don't think I will ever own diamond studs because I tend to get bored after a few years. I have a lab pair for travel, but for investment earrings I prefer jewelry house pieces that include diamonds (like VCA pave Alhambra or Frivole) because I love the designs (just another thought before you invest) and those *may* have better resale value compared to price paid down the road.
