Double Axle vs. Single Axle

Our Two Axle Positive Experience Nothing in Austin but a gas station, café, church and some brothels. Nursed it to Eureka, but no place we could get help there either. So, we nursed it to Ely, almost four nerve-wracking hours total. We were able to get the axle replaced there in Ely.

Had we had a single axle, we never would have made it and would have had a very expensive towing and repair bill. Living in the west where we get to travel long distances between towns in areas where we don’t have cell coverage means that, to us, dual axles is a necessity of life.

The fun part of the story is that when we did make it to a repair shop, they were kind enough to let us park next to the shop for the time it took to get the axle (which had to come to Ely from Las Vegas via Salt Lake City). As I was making the turn so I could back in next to the shop, I looked to the side and saw the tire rolling across the parking lot. We knew we had Someone's special help making it from Austin to Ely.

Just to share an experience. For years we’ve traveled back and forth across Nevada between California to Utah, but not on the Interstate Highways, mostly in our old TT with two axles. One trip we were headed east on Hwy 50 (AKA “the Loneliest Highway in the US”).
