A scooter is a small platform with two or more wheels that relies on the user to pedal the ground. The most common scooters today have two wheels and are made primarily of aluminum for lightness.

Early Scooters

The original scooters were handmade in industrialized cities at least 100 years ago. A common handmade scooter was a skate wheel mounted under a board with a handle, relying on a tilted body or a rudimentary pivot attached by a second board to steer, made of wood, with 3-4 inch (75-100 mm) wheels and steel ball bearings. Another "advantage" of this structure is that it is very noisy, like a "real" car. Another structure is a metal skate divided into two parts, front and back, connected by a wooden beam in the middle.

Aluminum Scooters

In the late 1990s, a sleeker, narrower collapsible scooter was invented by Wim Ouboter of Micro Original Scooters and kickboards in Switzerland, who built a miniature motorized vehicle out of a small, lightweight scooter made of steel. He used the scooter to walk around his Taiwan bicycle factory checking his products. he brought the scooter to a conference in Chicago in the summer of 1998. 4,000 units were ordered by Sharper Image Corp. Scooters became widely popular in Japan, and from 1999 to 2000, scooters became popular in the U.S., appearing in a variety of colors and styles. Carlton Calvin partnered with Robert Chen and Gino Tsai (the inventor of the scooter) to create Razor USA and began marketing Razor scooters worldwide in 2000. Razor owns the patent on the scooter technology and began suing copycat competitors and won 20 court victories in 20 lawsuits. They are still in production today and are popular with children and young people in the seamy market for stunt work with scooters.

Contemporary Scooters

There are many different types of scooters available today, but only the two most common types of scooters for adults and children are described below.

Adult Folding Scooters

Foldable scooters for adults are designed to be more convenient and practical and tend to be more durable. They have wider and longer pedals, larger wheels, and brakes.

Three-wheeled scooters

A three wheels scooter or three wheels kick scooter refers to a scooter with three wheels and the ability to glide. This is in contrast to unicycles, two-wheeled scooters, four-wheeled scooters, etc. Also refers to all scooters with three wheels. These include ordinary children's three-wheeled scooters (need to pedal glide), dynamic car, frog car, rocking scooters, dragon car, double pedal scooters. The latter are all designed with two pedals and do not require special pedal gliding.
