All what I can say that you need to use additives wisely without overacting otherwise it could deteriorate the entire mud system and result more down hole problems such as hole instability. Someday, we faced hole instability problem and we overacted by increasing the mud weight too much which ended with inducing fractures and lost the entire hole section. In other well, we found the mud engineer added inhibition additive while we are drilling across salt, we stopped him immediately since no need for it at all. Another well, the mud engineer recommend to stress caged a thief zone which is not the right application at all.
