Genghis Khan Statue in Mongolia

The gigantic steel equine statue mounted by Genghis Khan himself is the largest statue of an equestrian in the world.
This 40 m tall statue is located on a hillside on the bank of the Tuul River in an area called Tsonjin Boldog and connected to capital Ulaanbaatar by 54 km paved road.
Tsonjin Boldog was chosen according to the legend that Genghis Khan found a whip in this area. In Mongolia, people believe that man finding a whip is a sign of fortune, good destiny, and occasion.
The statue faces east, the direction of Genghis Khan's birthplace, and the sunrise. If you stretch your eyes to the east, you will see a small statue of his mother greeting him.
The statue is on a great day trip distance away from Ulaanbaatar and combining the statue with a visit to the Gorkhi Terelj National Park will be a good combination.
Inside the statue, you will tour the numerous portraits of the Khan lineage, see the evolution of the traditional nomadic dwelling gers, try on traditional Mongolian costumes for photos, visit souvenir shops or dine in a restaurant on the second floor.
The visitors take an elevator and walk to the horse head area through its chest and neck to the observation deck where you look out on panoramic views of the surrounding area, the Tuul River Valley and Khan Khentii Mountains, the birthplace of the khan.
The statue is open the year-round from 9 AM to 8 PM in summer and from 10 AM to 6 PM in winter.

The Kelpies ~Andy Scott: World's Largest Equine Statues ...

This week’s  blog posts are going to be about two COLOSSAL horse art works! One is really well known and has been said that is the world’s largest horse statue WHICH IT IS NOT. It is this weeks featured post,  but the other, is hardly known at all IS THE WORLD’S LARGEST HORSE STATUE IN THE WORLD~

The Kelpies~

I saw the Kelpies! Well actually, I saw the 15-foot Kelpies in Brant Park, NYC in April ~ not the 99 foot tall one’s in Scotland! The artist, Andy Scott made them out of small pieces of galvanized steel welded together to create two gigantic horse heads that  were in the works for almost seven years!

Both statues were  modeled on two Clydesdale horses, Duke and Baron as a symbolism to remember all of the heavy breed horses from Scotland that worked so hard to make it what it is today.

The Kelpies were finished in  November 2013, but opened to the public in April 2014 .

It’s estimated that these two horses will bring in 1.5  million dollars though guided tours and 350,000 visitors a year! The  Kelpies are also lit up (like the photo) to mark special days.

Here is a really fascinating timelapse on the mking of the Kelpies and a BBC Documetary! Worth to wach both!

Here are some more photos of the ones in Scotland!~

Here are some of the photos I took when we went to NYC. They were only here for a month. I didn’t have to go to Scotland to see them!

Hope  you all  enjoyed this post! come back Friday to see the WORLD’S LARGEST HORSE SCULPTURE!
