28 Mar 18 17:49Ok so i received these steel rebars today, but i am confused on the grade and strength of the bars, as you can see from the label, the bars are B450C according. to D.M. 14.01. (Italy)but then below you can see another 6 standards with different grades. so what is the yield strength of the steel bars i have in hand now? is it 450MPa or 500MPa?this is their cataloguethis is their website

28 Mar 18 17:51The ASTM A615, Grade 60 bars has a yield strength of 60,000 psi (60ksi) which equals 413mPA

28 Mar 18 18:04How is this, ASTM A615, Grade 60 bars equivalent to lets say BS: which has a yield strength of 500MPa?
Maybe ASTM A615, Grade 60 bars has a safety factor already applied to it?

28 Mar 18 18:11It's not uncommon to have steel multi-graded to be able to sell to various markets. If one is to believe the grade tag (I would) it meets all listed standards so you can pick one with highest yield and use that number (as long as they are applicable to your local market).
If I was the one getting these bars then since I am in US and we use ASTM I would only assume it's 60 ksi only because I am not familiar with all other ones listed on the tag.
However, for example: sometimes within ASTM grades steel can be double or triple graded (like HSS/Tube/PIPE members). They locally meet A35, A500B and A500C grade all of which have differed yields per AISC. I always take advantage of this and design it using 46 KSI (A500C).

28 Mar 18 18:18a grade only sets minimum requirements, which doesn't preclude the member to have much higher parameters. In this example the bars meet the minima of all listed grades. SO if you're familiar with all these grades you can use the highest parameters.
One strange thing for me is the fact that the weldable bar in the US is graded as ASTM A706 not A615.....

28 Mar 18 19:44Yes - I'd agree with Mjkkb2. The 60 ksi is the bar yield strength (fy in the ACI code in the US). It can be higher than that...thus the 500mPA.

29 Mar 18 15:18AWS D1.4 Code sets the criteria for welding rebar.
A706 is always weldable with up to and including #6 rebar without pre-heat, and with pre-heat required for #7 to #18
A615 can be weldable but with pre-heat in all cases, 300 Deg for #6 and under, and 500 deg for #7 and larger, except if mill test reports are available and show Carbon Equivalent Content that complies with D1.4 requirements.
