Expanded metal is a metal mesh formed by spreading a metal plate while making a staggered cut by a blade, and shaping the cut into diamond (Standard type) or hexagonal pattern (Grating type). Various materials are used, including iron, aluminum, stainless steel, nickel, and titanium.
Expanded metal is lightweight and has excellent post-processability. In addition, there are no mesh joints, and the applied load is dispersed. As a result, the tensile strength is strong. Taking advantage of this feature, expanded metal is used in a wide range of applications, including air vent windows in electrical equipment, acoustic equipment, firing trays for sintering process, machine covers, cable racks, fences, construction, and civil engineering materials.
